Message from the Course Director
Welcome to Wood Badge!
Wood Badge is an adult leadership training, good for all Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Varsity Scout, Venture Crew and Sea Scout programs, and is open to scout leaders ages 18 and older. As the premier leadership training course for the Last Frontier Council, Wood Badge focuses on strengthening your ability to work with groups of youth and adults while building strong teams and strengthening your unit. Wood Badge training incorporates leadership concepts. The course teaches participants the basics of listening, communicating, valuing people, team development, situational leadership, problem solving, and managing conflicts. Once the skill is learned, each member is given the opportunity to utilize these skills as a member of a successful working team. Many of these skills are used in corporate America today. At the conclusion of the practical part of the course, each participant develops a set of personal goals related to his or her Scouting role, known as a ticket. Working toward these goals allows each participant to practice and demonstrate new skills. This is called working your tickets. Wood Badge is a six day immersion in the Scouting experience held at the beautiful Camp George Thomas, near Apache, Oklahoma. The first weekend is September 11-13, 2015 and the second weekend is October 2-4, 2015. You must attend all six days to complete the practical phase of the course. We begin at 7:00 AM on Friday so most participants arrive Thursday evening. Wood Badge is a wonderful experience – in addition to learning leadership skills, you will be able to develop a deeper understanding of Scouting values, and you will be fostering new friendships in the Scouting community. It’s about heart and it’s about FUN!!! Join us and be a “kid” again! Experience the adventure of Scouting as seen though the eyes of a youth. Let’s sing those old campfire songs and enjoy some wacky campfire skits. Find out how to deliver the “Promise of Scouting” and make it FUN all at the same time. After all every youth deserves a trained leader and every leader deserves to be trained. In Scouting, David McDaniels Scoutmaster WB-2126 Gilwell Troop 1 S8-480-15-2 Last Frontier Council 2015 |
